Our comprehensive initiative to combat malnutrition and promote food security in underserved South African communities through sustainable solutions and education.
The Food Nutrition Project is the flagship program of the DTOM FOUNDATION FOOD CENTRE, launched in 2022 to address the critical issue of malnutrition in South African communities. Our project takes a holistic approach that combines immediate nutritional support with long-term sustainable solutions to create lasting change.
Providing daily nutritious meals to children and vulnerable families to address immediate food insecurity and support healthy development.
Establishing community gardens and teaching sustainable farming techniques to create long-term food security and economic opportunities.
Providing nutrition education, cooking workshops, and health information to empower communities with knowledge for lifelong healthy habits.
We provide daily nutritious meals to school children, ensuring they receive the essential nutrients needed for proper growth, cognitive development, and academic performance. Our meals are designed by nutritionists to include a balance of proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals.
We establish and maintain community gardens that provide fresh vegetables and fruits year-round. These gardens serve as educational centers where community members learn sustainable farming techniques, water conservation, and organic gardening practices.
We conduct regular workshops and training sessions on nutrition, healthy cooking, and food safety. Our educational programs empower community members with the knowledge to make informed food choices and prepare nutritious meals on a budget.
We work closely with community leaders and members to develop locally-appropriate solutions. Our approach builds local capacity and leadership, ensuring that communities can sustain and expand nutrition initiatives independently.
Our target for the first year of operation, providing daily nutritious meals to support growth and development.
Establishing sustainable gardens across communities to provide fresh produce and agricultural training.
Monthly nutrition and cooking workshops to educate families about healthy eating habits.
Direct support and training for families to achieve food security and nutritional independence.
Our goal is to expand the Food Nutrition Project to reach 10,000 children across South Africa by 2027, establish sustainable food systems in 50 communities, and create a model for nutrition intervention that can be replicated nationwide. We aim to not only address immediate hunger but to break the cycle of malnutrition through education, empowerment, and sustainable development.
